In this article, I introduces how to setup FTP to facilitate you manage your content.
If you are not familiar with cPanel, please check info of this article
Firstly, input “FTP” in the “Find” textbox, then the tools which relating to FTP, shown on right panel like picture below.
Then click “FTP Account” to setup your accessing account of FTP, after setup your username, password, directory (default is root directory) and quota, my suggestion is you can create directory which same with your username, for example “www” means this account used to manage your web content. And you can modify those configurations in the future.
So next you can setup FTP client, WebHostingHub provides pre-defined configuration of FileZilla, CoreFTP, and Cyberduck, of course you also can choose another FTP client software and setup by yourself. (I recommend FileZilla)
After configure your FTP client, you can start to transfer your content to the server.
Let’s go back to control panel, there is another FTP tool names “FTP session control”, You can use this function to see who is currently logged into your site through FTP. You can also terminate any FTP connections to your site that you feel should not be open. This can be very useful in preventing users from accessing your files without your permission.
Another useful tool is Webalizer FTP, it is a complex stats program that produces a variety of charts and graphs about who has visited your site using FTP protocol.
Ok, the second part of this article is testing FTP service, actually the data presented here might be not accurate, only statistic by myself and the data doesn’t mean anything bad or good of FTP service of webhostinghub.
Start Time File Size File Type Operation Duration
6:00 am 10M video upload 3mins
12:00 am 10M video upload 5mins
12:00 pm 10M video upload 18mins because of losing connection twice
More detail data please write to me to ask.
And I have upload 100G data to FTP, my site works as well as normal. It is really cool.
In the next article, I will share the experience of setting up WordPress.
