Once the search engines spider ask a page on those non-existing sub-folders, the system will automatically create a link that will be directed to the web host’s website and there will be more links directed to them. If it is just an individual who is going to request for a non-existing page, this will be pointed to the customer’s site, but if it is done by using the search engines, there will lots of links that is in the customer’s sites which they do not even know. These links cannot be detected by FTP as it does exist. Those are only virtual and automatically created pages that are only seen and detected by search engine spiders
This web hosting scams is adding many links to the web host’s own website that makes them leveled up on the search engines which makes the customer’s website lose a ranking power. Instead of having the customer’s sites to be on top of the search engine rankings, their position will go to the web host’s sites. It is like stealing what the customer should have gotten.
This is not yet a common problem. But it is something that customers should be mindful. The only problem with this scam is that the customer has no way of detecting it because FTP cannot see any extra files.
There are some ways to detect such web hosting scams. Google was able to come up with a solution. At the bottom part of the result’s page, there is “Language Tools” link. Just click that one. There is a box near the top of the page where you can put the page’s URL. It is where you can translate a web page. Just leave the default German to English and hit “Translate”. There are no German characters or word in your links so if the web hosting companies make any changes in your sites, you will automatically see it after translation. If you are doing business with a small web hosting company, might as well check your site constantly to avoid this type of scamming.
There is another problem that might occur in anyone’s web site. These are hacking problems. On this one, unlike the first mentioned problem, it is not the web hosting company to blame. On this particular problem, the usernames and passwords of the sites is the one that has been hacked, but it is easily detected by FTP so it easy to aid. The best solution on this one is to remove the unauthorized links and totally change the password to a totally different password.
